On May 15 at 7 p.m. at Temple Beth Sholom, 1901 Kresson Rd., Hazak will present Paul M. Somers.
His lecture on Richard Strauss and the Third Reich explores how and why the 69-year-old composer became involved with the government and how he then balanced on a personal and political tightrope in order to save his family. The talk also explores his post-war years up to his death.
Somers is the retired music reviewer of the Star-Ledger and the Classical New Jersey Journal. Educated at the Ithaca College Conservatory, he studied composition and went on to a performing career as harpsichordist and conductor.
He is now the Director of Adult Education for the Bay-Atlantic Symphony in southern New Jersey. His Violin Concerto received its premiere performance in March and a narrative piece for children’s concerts is in progress.
The community is invited to this interesting program. Join us for refreshments after the presentation. Please RSVP to Saul Grossmann at 546–8551 or [email protected].
