By ROBERT LINNEHAN

At its regularly scheduled township council meeting, the members of the Evesham Township Council agreed on set salaries for several position in the police department for 2010 and beyond.

Council members approved an ordinance on second reading to set the minimum salary of the township police chief position at $105,000 and a maximum salary of $155,450. The police captain position will be eligible for a minimum salary of $100,000 and a maximum salary of $137,760 per year.

Additionally, the council members agreed on a minimum salary of $20 per hour for Special Law Enforcement Officer Class II’s. The position will also be eligible for a $30 per hour maximum salary.

More of these special officers will likely be brought into the township when the municipal complex installs its metal detectors. The class II’s are typically new officers out of training or retired police officers, Township Administrator Tom Czerniecki previously said.

They will be used to monitor and run the metal detectors.
