Local Medford Lakes couple Ed and Monika Briggs had the same lofty New Year’s resolution as many of us — to get in better shape. But instead of just doing this for themselves, they decided to join the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s Team In Training and begin raising money while training to participate in the San Diego Rock ’n’ Roll Half Marathon on June 5.
In an effort to meet their goals, Ed and Monika have organized a trivia night fund raiser on May 7 at the Lake Pine Clubhouse, located at 2 Chestnut Road.
“All of us on Team In Training are raising funds to help stop leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin lymphoma and myeloma from taking more lives,” Monkia, a cancer survivor, said. “We are completing this event in honor of all individuals who are battling blood cancers and all other cancers. These people are the real heroes on our team, and we need your support to cross the ultimate finish line — a cure.”
The Trivia Night is open to the public, and features dinner, two drink tickets, and six rounds of trivia, with prizes for tournament and round winners. Tickets are $25 in advance and $30 at the door.
Attendees can also expect various silent auction items available for bidding, with all proceeds from the evening benefitting the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. The doors open at 5 p.m., dinner is at 6 p.m., and trivia starts at 7 p.m. Teams of four to 10 are encouraged.
“We thought that this would be a fun and creative way to get the community involved in our efforts,” Monika said. “I have been one of the lucky people affected by the disease because, today, I am cured. However, not all of the children who were in the hospital with me were as lucky.”
Ed and Monika are also requesting donations of food, prizes, auction items, or trivia round sponsorships from local businesses.
