The National Weather Service has issued a flood advisory for the area until Thursday afternoon at 1:30 p.m. with bands of heavy rain moving northward through the region.
Rainfall rates of over half an hour have been reported in some areas, according to the National Weather Service. Heavy rains will continue to fall all day throughout the region and into Friday afternoon.
The urban and small stream flood advisory has been issued for both Camden and Burlington Counties in South Jersey.
A flood advisory means river or stream flows are elevated or ponding of water in urban or other areas is occurring or is imminent.
The weather service reports that most flood deaths occur in automobiles. It cautions motorists to never drive a vehicle into areas where the water covers the roadway. Flood waters are usually deeper than they appear and just one foot of flowing water is powerful enough to sweep vehicles off the road.
