Deadline to run for school board is March 8

Want to serve on the Moorestown Township Board of Education? The deadline to get your name on the ballot is fast approaching.

BOE President Don Mishler, Vice President Christina Zajac, and member Larry Friedman, are all set to see their Board terms expire in 2011, leaving three seats open for this year’s race.

Candidates that wish to see their names on the ballot during the April 27 school board election, must file a nominating petition with the MTPS Board secretary’s office by March 8 at 4 p.m.

Valid petitions must include at least 1o signatures from registered voters living within the Moorestown school district. Each candidate running in the election needs to submit a petition, including incumbent candidates.

Requirments for potential school board members include being able to read and write, holding U.S. citizenship and at least one year’s residency in the school district, being a registered voter before filing a nominating petition, having no interest in any contract with the board and no claim against the board, and holding no other elected office term.

For more information on how to get your name on this year’s ballot, visit the New Jersey School Boards Association’s Web site.
