Kresson third graders’ incredible journey

Kresson School third graders have been learning all about immigration in Social Studies recently. Students in Mrs. Kerns’ class recently had a visit from Maria Cassano, who happens to be Kerns’ mom.

Cassano is an immigrant from Italy, and came to America when she was 18 years old. She explained to the class how she traveled for eight days by boat, and even brought her original passport. Cassano also shared pictures of her journey, as well as pictures from her hometown in Sulmona, Italy.

The classroom was decorated with welcome posters and the students had also written letters to Cassano telling her how excited they were for her visit. The students asked lots of questions and got a first person account of what immigrating to America was really like. What a journey.
