Five students from Lenape High School are set to compete in the twelfth annual Burlington County Consumer Bowl on Wednesday, Feb. 16, at Burlington County College’s Main Campus in Pemberton.
Consumer Bowl is a game show-like competition that tests high school students’ knowledge of consumer, and weights and measures issues.
Gail Kain, an accounting teacher and the Department Coordinator for Business, Technology, PE + Health and ROTC at Lenape, said students will be quizzed on credit and consumer laws.
Kain said the New Jersey Division of Consumer Affairs reports that teenagers are the biggest victims of consumer fraud. The competition, she said, encourages students to become aware of the laws and also where to find the answers to consumer questions.
Five students from Kain’s Accounting IV class will participate in the event: Trey Amar, Te’Aira Jones, Allyson Hall, Jackie Maynes and Brooke Reithmeier.
The group will compete against students from Bordentown, Burlington County Institute Of Technology, Burlington Township, Cherokee, Cinnaminson, Delran, Moorestown Friends, Pemberton, Seneca, Shawnee and Willingboro.
The competition begins at 9:30 a.m. Four winners from the first and second rounds will compete at 1 p.m. for the County Championship.
