Despite the surprising news of the town hall possibly being relocated to the Voorhees Town Center, the Committee also completed several other pieces of business last week that saw the purchase of needed pieces of equipment for the department of public works and police department.
The Committee unanimously approved a bond for $165,000 for the purchase of several pieces of equipment for the township police department. Of the total, $51,300 is appropriated for communication equipment; $59,400 for computers, printers and mobile data terminals; and $54,300 for other additional equipment such as radios, gun racks and light bars.
The equipment is expected to be useful for the next five to seven years for the department, township representatives reported.
Earlier this month, the Committee approved a similar bond ordinance for $177,000 for the purchase of equipment for the department of public works (http://elauw.it/7qMnH).
The Committee also accepted a bid from Cherry Valley Tractor Sales for a trailer mounted yard waste collection machine with a 30-yard capacity. The company’s bid of $55,990 was actually about $9,000 more than another bid proposed by ODB. However, ODB’s bid of $47,180 was rejected because its specifications were different than what the township had required of the machine. Howard Long, the township solicitor, advised the Committee to reject ODB’s bid for the leaf collection equipment.
The piece of equipment is a 2010 Tarco Leaf Machine, according to the township.
In other Committee news:
-The township received $1,106 from the state Alcohol Education, Rehabilitation and Enforcement Fund and inserted it into the township’s 2010 budget.
The AEREF disburses money to municipalities for treatment, prevention and drunken driving enforcement.
