Global Nomads Group will bring the devastation and aftermath of Haiti’s earthquake directly to North American classrooms through a series of live videoconference programs entitled, ”Rapid Response: Haiti — Earthquake Relief.” Students from Cherokee High School will connect with their peers in Haiti via a live two-way broadcast on March 25 from 10 to 11 a.m. A team of GNG educators will be meeting with Haitian youth and hearing their stories of survival and hope. Using satellite videoconferencing, students will have the unique opportunity to learn from their Haitian peers about the realities of what happened and engage in meaningful dialogue about how to rebuild Haiti. This special program is also part of a larger initiative designed to foster philanthropy among young people. GNG’s Haiti videoconferences will be divided into two live sessions including: Picking Up the Pieces — Haitian Youth Stories and Starting to Rebuild — Hopes for the Future; and a follow-up videoconference for North American youth to share their plans and ideas of how to contribute to recovery efforts. Schools interested in joining the program should register early as space is limited. To learn more about Students Rebuild or to register your school for the challenge, visit studentsrebuild.org.
GNG is also offering a live, one-hour Web cast on March 26 at noon. Field staff will be interviewing young Haitian people, relief workers, and representatives. In the true spirit of interactive dialogue and collaboration, students are encouraged to submit questions during the live broadcast.
