Evesham Mayor Randy Brown will run as a Republican this November in the township’s first partisan election.
The former Democrat announced last week that he would be switching political parties in time for this year’s primary and general elections.
Until about two years ago, Brown said, he had been a Republican his entire adult life.
“I’ve always been fiscally conservative,” Brown said. “My philosophies have blended and do blend a lot more with the Republican point of view.”
In the last municipal election, Brown said that he and his two running mates now Burlington County Freeholder Chris Brown and Councilman John McKenna did not have to declare a party to run in the non-partisan election.
“I’m guessing that if we had this format back then we probably would have run in a Republican primary,” Brown said.
Brown cited philosophical differences with the county and state Democratic parties as the reason for his recent split as well as disagreements with positions and decisions made by the party and its members.
