A middle school was locked down last Thursday for an hour when school officials found a death threat message scrawled in one of the girl’s restrooms.
Beck Middle School was under lockdown starting at 1:19 p.m., according to Cherry Hill Police Lt. William Kushina. The threat was to occur at a specific time, Kushina said, and the time came and passed without incident. As a precaution, the school went into protective lockdown while the police searched the school for weapons or explosives.
The school had a normal dismissal, he said.
Public Information Officer Susan Bastnagel said parents were notified of the incident by the school district’s automated call system. An initial phone call went out detailing the incident, she said, and another went out informing parents the lockdown was over.
The entire lockdown lasted about an hour.
The incident is being investigated by the Cherry Hill Police Detective Unit and the Cherry Hill Campus Police, Kushina said.
