After months of searching, Council has designated Woolwich-based builders Fieldstone Associates, L.P as the preliminary redeveloper for the former municipal complex at 125 E. Main St.
A resolution approved last week states that the appointment is conditional based on whether Council and the redeveloper can come to an agreement about various aspects of the project — including price and payment schedule.
Council and the redeveloper have 60 to 90 days to reach an agreement, according to the resolution.
Township Manager Tom Czerniecki said if an agreement is not reached within the designated time period, the project would go back out to bid.
The township has been looking at redeveloping the property and vacant building since February 2007 when a potential sale of the land fell through and left them with a $750,000 budget gap to fill.
In 2008, after investigation by the planning board, the site was declared a redevelopment zone. Council was designated as the redeveloping agency, which Czerniecki said, gives it the ability to hire the most qualified bidder for the project.
