Voters approve K-8, Eastern budgets

Voorhees residents have passed both the K-8 and Eastern Regional school district budgets.

According to unofficial election results posted on the K-8 district’s Web site (www.voorhees.k12.nj.us), there were 960 votes for the budget and 831 votes against it. The average homeowner in Voorhees will pay about $24 more in school taxes this year under the $50.7 million budget.

Incumbent Board of Education members Denise Kirkland (1,071 votes) and Geraldine Borbe (1,032) were also re-elected to their posts. They will be joined by challenger Amy Lynch (959), who edged incumbent Edward Barniskis (842) for the final open seat.

According to Eastern officials, the district’s budget passed by a vote of 1,483 to 1,210. The average homeowner will pay about $58 more in taxes under Eastern’s budget.

Incumbent Board of Education members Robert Campbell (1,273 votes) and Richard Teichman (1,182) were also re-elected to new three-year seats. They ran unopposed for the terms.
