The time to hit the polls for the annual school board election is fast approaching, and residents should prepare to decide the fate of the 2009–10 school district budget as well as three open seats on the Board of Education.
During the school board election on Tuesday, April 21, residents will vote on the proposed $68.8 million budget. The amount to be raised by local taxes to support the budget is about $58 million, which is a less than 1 percent increase over last year. Due, in part, to the township’s loss of about $49 million in tax ratable properties this year, taxpayers will see the school tax rate increase 2.2 cents, or 1.79 percent, to $1.236.
If the budget is passed, homeowners in the average assessed home of $537,000 will pay approximately $116 more in school taxes this budget year, or $9.71 per month. The average school tax bill is estimated to be about $6,637, school officials said.
Board of Education incumbents William A. Van Fossen III and Linda Alexandroff will compete against challengers Dimitri Schneiberg, Cyndy Pappaterra and David A. Weinstein for three, three-year seats on Moorestown’s Board of Education.
Residents will have from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. to cast their votes at their designated polling place. Districts 1–3 will vote at the New Albany Recreation Center. Districts 4, 5, 7 and 8 will vote at Mary E. Roberts School. Districts 6 and 9–12 will vote at George C. Baker School. Districts 13 and 15–17 will vote at South Valley School. Districts 14 and 18–20 will vote at the Upper Elementary School.
