The Philharmonic of Southern New Jersey will hold its annual Children’s Concert, themed “Great Things … Small Packages,” on Sunday, April 19, at 3 p.m. at Moorestown High School.
The concert, designed specifically for children and their families, will include a unique performance of Drakestail, a musical story of a small duck with a great heart, who triumphs over adversity to become a hero. Drakestail, written by noted New Jersey composer Mario Lombardo, will combine orchestral music with the charm of puppetry. The concert also will feature such cherished works as Mozart’s Symphony №41, an excerpt from The Wizard of Oz, the first movement of Haydn’s Toy Symphony, and Sousa’s Stars and Stripes March. In addition, the concert will showcase the talents of 11-year-old local violin prodigy Hannah Lam, as well as five students from the Moorestown school district.
Tickets for the performance are $5 for students and $10 for adults. Moorestown students may attend for free. Tickets can be purchased by calling 856–779–2600 or by visiting the philharmonic’s website, located at www.psnj.org.
The philharmonic’s Children’s concert is one of four that the 75-piece, all-volunteer orchestra is presenting this season. The season also will include a “Showpieces” spring concert on May 9. For additional information, visit www.psnj.org.
