The Jersey Gypsy’s Tranquil Trails: Must-Visit Spas in Maryland

Marylands Top WellnessSpas YouNeedto Visit

Welcome to the Jersey Gypsy column, where our resident travel reporter, Valentina, roams the globe in pursuit of stories.

I have to admit, when I first thought of Maryland, luxurious spas were the last thing on my mind. But as I started hearing about the state’s thriving wellness scene—and seeing it for myself—I knew I had to make time to visit the best spas.

I was naturally curious about what makes Maryland a great place for relaxation, and thinking about it, it made sense. The state is rich in nature, and based on the people I’ve met there, they have a strong interest in self-care.

Thankfully, I had enough time to visit a few fantastic wellness spas while I explored Maryland.

The Spa at Four Seasons Hotel Baltimore

The Four Seasons Hotel in Baltimore is truly an urban oasis with breathtaking views. I had planned to stay there for two days, so I figured I’d make time to visit their spa. The hotel itself is classy and elegant, so I was expecting the spa to mirror this vibe.

When I entered, I couldn’t help but feel like I’d stumbled upon a sanctuary designed for the soul. Their treatment menu reads like a love letter to wellness, and I indulged in their signature Four Seasons Massage.

It was a customized treatment that combined Swedish, deep tissue, and aromatherapy techniques. My therapist, a skilled and intuitive woman, worked her magic on my tired muscles, melting away tension and leaving me completely relaxed.

The massage incorporated locally sourced essential oils, and the scent of lavender and chamomile filled the air, enhancing the calming experience.

After my treatment, I spent some time in the relaxation lounge, sipping herbal tea and gazing out at the panoramic city views. The spa also has an infinity pool and a state-of-the-art fitness center. I could have easily spent an entire day here, but I was eager to explore more of Maryland. My three hours there were just the recharge I needed.

Pearl Modern Spa & Boutique

The Pearl Modern Spa & Boutique in Annapolis offers a more contemporary approach to wellness. The spa’s minimalist décor, natural light, and calming color palette created a serene and inviting atmosphere that I couldn’t wait to experience.

They offer a variety of treatments, including massages, facials, manicures and pedicures, and reiki. Although I knew I should have tried the reiki treatment, I felt it was time for a facial—something I hadn’t had in a while.

So, I opted for their Divine Pearl Facial ($180), which lasted an hour. I’d never had a treatment like this before, especially with a 24-karat gold face mask. I can say it worked wonders because my face no longer looked dull after the session.

The spa also features a boutique with a curated selection of skincare products and wellness essentials. After my facial, I stayed a bit longer to enjoy the hot tubs and water pool. They also have a cold plunge that I wasn’t quite ready to try—maybe next time.

The Ivy Hotel Spa

Another hotel spa I decided to try was located in The Ivy Hotel in Baltimore. They offer facials and massage therapies. After walking around the city a lot, I chose to indulge in The Uncle Nearest Hot Toddy Foot Ritual ($171), which I enjoyed for an hour.

The fun name made it unique, but so was the experience. The ritual began with a warm foot soak, followed by the Hot Toddy Infusion, which was essentially a soak infused with a special blend of whiskey, honey, and spices—an homage to the traditional Hot Toddy drink.

After that, the therapist proceeded with exfoliation and massage. Sixty minutes flew by quickly, and I think I even dozed off at some point. The whole experience felt luxurious, but most importantly, my tired feet finally got the pampering they deserved.

The Woodhouse Day Spa

I also stopped by The Woodhouse Day Spa in North Bethesda. While it’s a more commercial spa with locations in different states (including four in New Jersey), I figured it might be popular for good reasons.

I’m not sure about their other locations, but the one in North Bethesda was spacious, and I was a fan of their rustic decor. They have treatment stations with soaking rooms, but this time, I was after a manicure ($75).

My nail technician pampered my hands with a luxurious soak, exfoliation, and massage. She then expertly shaped and polished my nails, and it was probably the rustic vibes that made me choose nude colors.

The Woodhouse Day Spa does not have the same exclusive vibe as some of the other spas I visited. It’s giving more like Ethos Aesthetics and Wellness Center vibes.

State of Relaxation in the Spas of Maryland

Overall, I can say that my whole Maryland trip was much easier because of the spas I visited in between. Who knew that a little pampering could make such a difference?

But more than just the physical benefits, those spa visits gave me a different perspective on the state. I discovered that Maryland can also offer tranquility and rejuvenation within its charming towns and bustling cities. It’s definitely a side of Maryland that often gets overlooked.

So, if you’re planning a trip to Maryland, don’t just focus on the crabs and cakes (though those are definitely worth indulging in!). Make time for some self-care, explore the spa scene, and discover a whole new level of relaxation. Your mind, body, and taste buds will thank you.

Maryland’s Top Wellness Spas – FAQs

How Far in Advance Should I Book Spa Treatments in Maryland?

It’s always best to book your spa treatments at least a week in advance, especially if you’re visiting during peak season or have a specific therapist in mind. Since most of my spa trips were unplanned, I just got lucky with my walk-ins.

What Should I Wear to a Spa?

Wear something comfortable or easy to remove, as most spas provide robes and slippers for you to change into. You may also want to bring a swimsuit if you plan on using the pool or other water facilities.

What Is the Appropriate Etiquette for Tipping at a Spa?

It’s customary to tip your therapist 15-20% of the treatment cost. You can also tip other spa staff, such as the receptionist or locker room attendant, a few dollars.

What Are Some Good Tips for Making the Most of My Spa Experience in MD?

If you want to make the most of your spa experience, you should arrive on time or a bit earlier. Many spas have a relaxation lounge or sauna for you to enjoy before your treatment. However, day spas may have limited amenities, focusing only on the services you’ve booked.
