Sicklerville man arrested following fatal hit-and-run Thursday evening

The incident took place in Winslow Township along Williamstown Road near the Atlantic City Expressway bridge.

The Camden County Prosecutor’s Office and Winslow Township Police Department investigated a fatal hit-and-run that occurred on Jan. 22 at approximately 10:34 p.m. on Williamstown Road near the Atlantic City Expressway bridge.

When Winslow Township Police responded to the scene, they found the victim, James Lawrence, 47, of Williamstown, lying in the road. He was taken to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased at 12:37 a.m.

On Jan. 24, as the investigation continued, the Winslow Township Highway Safety Unit received information that led them to a location on Woodhaven Way where the suspect vehicle may be. Members of the Winslow Township Highway Safety Unit and CCPO, subsequently located the vehicle and through investigation determined that the suspect vehicle had been used during the fatal hit and run crash two days prior that killed James Lawrence. John Beauzile, 23, of Sicklerville was determined to have been operating the vehicle when he struck and killed James Lawrence.

Beauzile was arrested and charged with second degree leaving the scene of a motor vehicle accident resulting in death and third degree for causing death while driving a motor vehicle with a suspended driver’s license. In accordance with New Jersey Bail Reform, Beauzile was charged on a summons.

Beauzile was also processed on active warrants out of Lindenwold Boro and Greenwich Twp. municipal court.
