Virginia Vighi Carson, age 81 and a longtime Haddonfield resident, passed away on Saturday, April 29.
Virginia’s family will receive friends at Kain-Murphy Funeral Services on 15 West End Ave. in Haddonfield on Thursday, May 4 from 4 to 8 p.m. and again on Friday morning, May 5 from 10 to 10:40 a.m. at St. Vincent Pallotti Church on 901 Hopkins Rd. in Haddon Township where her funeral mass will follow promptly at 11 a.m.
Carson was the beloved wife of James B. Carson and was predeceased by daughter Lucille Carson, brother James R. Vighi and sister-in-law Susan Vighi Evers. She was the loving mother of James Carson, Jr., Anne Pappalardo (Victor) and Thomas Carson. Carson was the dear grandmother of Cecilia and Charles Pappalardo and the beloved sister-in-law to Bill and Mary Carson as well as aunt, cousin and friend to many.
Virginia received her bachelor’s of science in Biology from St. Mary’s College of Notre Dame. There she met the love of her life, Jim. During their marriage of 59 years, they raised their family in Haddonfield. Her heart burst with love and pride for her family, and she was a loyal friend whose love was unconditional and marked by thousands of small acts of kindness and thoughtfulness.
Virginia grew up in Ottawa, Ill. and maintained strong lifelong relationships with her Midwest family and friends. She was a longtime member of the Cooper Hospital Woman’s Board, Philadelphia Museum of Art Park House Guides and King’s Road Questers. She co-founded the Haddonfield Committee for Children with Special Learning Needs. Her activities included bridge, reading, theatre and puzzles of all kinds. She loved to ski and Zumba, continuing to do so into her eighties. Her grace, humor and steadfastness will be dearly missed by the many lives she touched.
