Plethora of events scheduled in Haddonfield for Memorial Day

Throughout the coming Memorial Day weekend, the borough of Haddonfield will feature several events geared towards the holiday’s commemoration of Americans who gave the supreme sacrifice.

On Friday, May 24, at 9:15 a.m., students and faculty of Haddonfield Memorial High School will gather to feature stories from local veterans. HMHS invites Haddonfield’s American Legion Post 38 members, as well as all veterans to attend this event, which will take place in the high school auditorium. Attendees are asked to report to the high school office no later than 9 a.m. Active duty, Reserve and National Guard members are encouraged to wear their uniforms.

On Monday, May 27, American Legion Post 38 invites veterans, service members and residents to a trio of events: the Memorial Day Parade, the Memorial Service at the War Memorial, and a Tree Dedication immediately after the memorial service.

The parade will kick off promptly at 10 a.m. on Kings Highway and make its way to the memorial in front of the high school. A service will then be held, which honors the fallen men and women of nine wars, from the American Revolution to the present-day conflict in the Middle East.

If the parade is canceled due to inclement weather, the memorial service will be conducted in the high-school auditorium at 11 a.m.

After the service, Commissioner John Moscatelli will conduct a tree dedication at the corner of Kings Highway and Haddon Avenue. The dedication will include a plaque mounted on a granite block placed before the “American Sycamore” which reads “Remember the sacrifice of our fallen U.S. Military” and “Post 38: American Legion.”
