Haddonfield Post 38 American Legion announces events for Memorial Day

On Monday, May 27, American Legion Post 38 invites veterans, service members and residents to the Memorial Day Parade, which begins at 10 a.m. and the Memorial Service at the War Memorial immediately after the parade arrives.

2019 is a special year for these activities because this is the Centennial Year for The American Legion and Haddonfield Post 38. Please join us in celebrating our 100th Birthday!

Participants in the parade will start forming at 9:30 a.m. on Kings Highway at Chestnut Street facing toward the high school. The flag vehicle with accompanying Boys Scouts and Cub Scouts start on the parade route at 9:40 a.m. The parade will step off at 10 and make its way to the War Memorial in front of Haddonfield Memorial High School. The parade will include the Post 38 Color Guard, the Mayor and Commissioners, the Post members, the High School Marching Band, local Girl Scouts, Boy Scout Troops 64 & 65 and Cub Scout Packs 64 & 65, Haddon Fire Co. No.1 and the Haddonfield Ambulance Association.

After the Parade, a Memorial Service will be held at the War Memorial in front of the High School. The service will honor the fallen men and women of nine wars, from the American Revolution to the present-day conflict in the Middle East.

The service will include military honors, Chaplain’s prayers by Pastor Jenni Ovenstone Smith, Grace Episcopal Church, remarks by Post 38 Commander Peter Hill and by Mayor Neal Rochford, the Armed Forces Medley, placement of flags for each war, a reading of “In Flanders Fields” by the HMHS Honor Society and music by the Pick-Up Band.

If the parade is cancelled due to inclement weather, the memorial service will be conducted in the high school auditorium at 11 a.m.
