The township welcomed the first day of spring this week with another nor’easter coming in full-force.
As a result of power outages in the community, Monroe Township will hold a warming station at the Pfeiffer Community Center from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. today, with light refreshments and charging stations. The Pfeiffer center is located at 301 Bluebell Road.
644 residents are currently without power, According to Atlantic City Electric’s outage map. Power is estimated to be restored by today, according to the website.
Power wasn’t the only thing residents were left without— various sports games were cancelled, along with the township’s annual Easter Egg hunt.
“For the parks, we basically had to cancel anything that was out there — any sports,” said parks and recreation clerk Tiffany Carney. “It’s affected our Easter egg hunt, which is now cancelled and rescheduled.”
The community Easter egg hunt at Owens park will now be rescheduled for Saturday, March 31 at 12 p.m.
About eight to 10 major trees came down at Owens park, roughly four at Mary Mazza Duffy Memorial Park, and sixteen were damaged at the park on Church Street, according to Carney.
