Gloucester County Earth Day shatters records in collected waste

Press release issued by Gloucester County

This year’s Gloucester County Earth Day Clean up was a record-breaking event, yielding a total of 3.5 tons of waste collected.

Twenty-eight different groups and organizations participated in the clean up which spanned throughout Gloucester County. The meeting kick-off point for the event was Mantua Township’s Chestnut Branch Park.

The volunteers collected tires, trash, branches, debris and vegetation.

Freeholder Director Robert M. Damminger said, “Over 400 volunteers participated in this year’s clean up and we are grateful for the help in cleaning our parks and communities.”

Freeholder Frank J. DiMarco said, “This was the largest turnout of participants we have ever had as well as the largest amount of debris collected. We hope this event continues to get bigger each year so that we can continue to keep our environment clean.”
