Music Festival and Town Appreciation Night to be held on June 2
Eight years ago, in an effort to bring the community together, the Monroe Township Parks and Recreation Commission started the Monroe Township Music Festival. Two years ago, it added “Town Appreciation Night” to the event name to drive home what the night is really about.
This year the event will take place on June 2, with a rain date of June 3, at Owens Park.
There will be plenty of parking along with a shuttle service that will run from the Williamstown Middle School to the event.
The festival, which will run from 5 to 10:30 p.m., has fun for the whole family. There will be more than 100 vendors, a food court, and a fireworks show at 10 p.m.
Thrill-seeking attendees can take advantage of a rock wall, a mechanical bull, or the zipline at the festival.
For patrons over the age of 21, there will be a beer and wine garden.
The Parks and Recreation Commission also noted dogs and bikes are not allowed at the festival.
The event is free to attend. Last year, there were more than 9,000 people in attendance.
“This event is a night to give back to the community,” Jim Bonder, the director of Parks and Recreation said. “I like to tell people that it takes over 900 volunteers over 100,000 hours to make baseball, football, soccer, boy scouts, girl scouts, etc. work. This is a night to make sure everyone comes together and we give back to them.”
Bonder added that there will be a raffle for a custom golf cart, valued at over $5000. Tickets for the raffle are $10 and all proceeds go to charity.
Breaking attendance records is a byproduct of the Parks and Rec. Commission’s goal to give back to the community and bring the town together.
Part of the free entertainment is musical performances by the Don’t Call Me Francis Band and country singer Madeline Smith and Band.
