VAO swinging for the fences

Minor league baseball at an inexpensive price and cute dogs for adoption? Families in Voorhees could think of a worse way to spend a balmy summer evening.

The Voorhees Animal Orphanage is presenting its Dog Days of Summer event, offering $11 tickets to the Camden River Sharks vs. Long Island Ducks on Saturday, June 27. The game will be held at Campbell’s Field in Camden and starts at 5:35 p.m.

All proceeds from the event will benefit the Voorhees Animal Orphanage.

“Our goal is to raise at least $2,000. Last year we met our goal. This year we’re trying to go for a little bit more than two grand,” Todd said. “This money is geared towards the medical fund in our shelter.”

The funding is used to purchase much-needed medicine — such as worm or heartworm drugs — for the shelter’s dogs. Additionally, it can help support any necessary surgery for dogs that come into the orphanage, she said.

Most importantly, the event will feature dogs from the Voorhees Animal Orphanage that are up for adoption. Visitors can take a few moments to see some of the dogs the orphanage has up for adoption at the information booth set up in the studio.
