The fifth annual “Cruisin’ for a Cause” Classic Car Show & Cookout for Alzheimer’s on Saturday, Sept. 15 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. hosted by Yardley Commons.
Yardley Commons is a senior independent living retirement community located at 209 Laurel Road in Voorhees (across from Voorhees Town Center — formerly Echelon Mall).
Guests will enjoy a display of 100+ antique cars and street rods from the 1920s thru 1960s, oldies musical entertainment, a cookout with all the trimmings, and the opportunity to win many prizes. The car show is free, but the cookout is $5 per person — all proceeds will be donated to the South Jersey Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association for education and research. There is no cure for Alzheimer’s — a debilitating disease that affects individuals’ most recent memories first. A senior living community always hosts this special event because Alzheimer’s disease is most prominent in the elderly. Those individuals with Alzheimer’s often have a challenge remembering current events, but usually have a clear understanding of what happened in their life several years ago — which is why they enjoy seeing the older cars from their youth and young adulthood. One of the unique features of this car show is the senior residents from Yardley Commons will vote for their favorite cars to determine the first, second and third Place “Residents’ Choice” trophy winners.
The fifth annual “Cruisin’ for a Cause” Classic Car Show & Cookout for Alzheimer’s is open to the public. Families who have an elderly loved one facing challenges living at home independently may want to attend. Several senior service agencies will be on hand at the car show to provide educational materials on their services — including home care, assisted living, rehab therapy, hospice and elder law.
