Voorhees Township will continue to make improvements to around town.
After the meeting on Monday, Sept. 24, the committee members approved the 2012 Road Program as well as the installation of playground equipment in Green Ridge and Sandpiper playgrounds.
To add on to town improvements, the committee agreed to award a contract to Command Company for improvements to Rabinowitz Field, Wednesday, Oct. 9. The township received a total of nine bids for the project on Tuesday, Sept. 18. Command Company’s bid was the lowest out of the eight other bidders.
However, Voorhees Deputy Mayor Mario DiNatale did not agree with approximately $200,000 worth of improvements to Rabinowitz Field.
DiNatale does want the field improvements, but he believes it can be done at a lower cost and without putting a damper on taxpayers.
“My concern is the amount of money,” DiNatale said
Committee member Michael Friedman responded to DiNatale’s vote against the field improvements.
The field improvements are considered an investment in the community and the investment should be protected, Friedman said.
DiNatlate wanted to make it clear that his intentions on voting against the improvements are only due to the amount of money being spent.
“I want to spend in our means,“ said DiNatale.
The amount of money spent on the project is more than what the township has, DiNatale said.
Meeting update
Olivia Cornaglia was commended at the Voorhees committee meeting on Wednesday, Oct. 9. Olivia won a gold metal in the vault and beam events at the Special Olympics of New Jersey. Mayor Michael Mignogna presented her with a plaque and congratulated her on her accomplishment.
The committee unanimously approved the state application submission for bikeway path improvements to exiting paths on Victor Boulevard to the Wynewood development in Gibbsboro and along Kresson Lake on Highway 73 South from Centennial Boulevard to Evesham Road.
Grant applications to the New Jersey Department of Transportation were unanimously approved for road improvements to Laurel Oak Road from Haddonfield-Berlin Road to Deerfield Drive and sidewalk improvements on the White Horse Pike from Evesham Road to Front Street.
A contract was also awarded to DiMeglio Construction for the 2012 Road Program. Friedman opposed the resolution passing. He was unable to review the other bids.
The next committee meeting will be on Monday, Oct. 22 at 8 p.m.
