Two Eastern High School seniors will perform in Honors Ensembles
Eastern High School seniors Rachel Horner and Maddi Kaigh will join 780 of the most musically talented high school students from the eastern region of the United States who have been selected to perform as part of the 2013 NAfME All-Eastern Honors Ensembles. Horner will perform with 350 vocalists in the mixed chorus, and Kaigh will be part of the Eastern Conference’s first-ever 150-voice treble chorus.
Students must be nominated by their music teachers, must have participated in their state’s All-State Music Festival and are selected by the state chapter of the NAfME based on ranked lists of nominated students.
Horner and Kaigh will prepare remarkably challenging music and will spend three days rehearsing with top student musicians from 12 states, under the leadership of prominent conductors. Janet Galva, from Ithaca College, will lead the Treble Voice Chorus and the Mixed Chorus will be under the direction of Z. Randall Stroope from Oklahoma State University.
The Eastern Division Conference is held every two years and is hosted by a local state Music Educators Association. The 2013 All-Eastern Honors Ensembles will perform for an audience of thousands Sunday, April 7, at the Bushnell Center for the Performing Arts, Mortensen Hall, in Hartford, Conn.
