Winslow Township High School is having a Night with the Sixers on Tuesday, Nov. 1

This event is sponsored by the high school’s Key Club and the choir will be singing the National Anthem prior to the game.

Winslow Township High School is having its first ever Night with the Sixers on Tuesday, Nov. 1 at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia.

Sponsored by the Key Club, this event with the Philadelphia 76ers is for students, residents of Winslow Township and anyone who wants to support the high school and enjoy a professional basketball game. The Winslow Township High School Choir, directed by Michael Doheny, will also be singing the National Anthem.

Key Club advisor Ethan Bobo organized the event.

“The event is a chance for students to be proud of their school and enjoy a great game of basketball,” he said. “Too often, students feel stressed over work and exams. We want our students to remember that they can have a great time at school and associate good memories with friends during school events. Of course, these types of activities make the school year fly by as well as help the students look forward to coming to school each day.”

He began talking to the Sixers in the beginning of July so he could start the school year with big plans to share with the student body.

“Though sponsored by Key Club, we wanted to open it to the entire school community and bring as much of the Winslow spirit as possible,” said Bobo. “Fortunately for us, Mr. Doheny is also interested in showcasing our awesome students while providing fun activities to boost morale. Plus, our community gets a stronger sense of involvement as they see our students having fun and our choir students sing their hearts out.”

The choir is familiar with singing the National Anthem at professional sports games. They have performed the National Anthem at Phillies games over a dozen times over the last twenty years, most recently in April of this year.

“The students are very excited,” said Doheny. “Mr. Bobo was nice enough to include the choir in order to make the evening a complete Winslow Township event. It’s a great source of pride for the school and a spirit-booster for the students.”

Bobo said each year Key Club tries to organize events that contribute to the positive high school experience while building its school and community.

“At the end of the day, we are thinking about the kids and their experiences at school,” explained Bobo. “If we can create an event that makes people think positively of Winslow Township High School, that’s great and certainly something to be happy about. But even more important to me is creating activities and events that get the students talking, motivating them to come to school and work hard, and hopefully instill a sense of pride in where they came from. After all, we get to spend four years with them, but the memories they walk away with after graduation will last forever. Nothing would make me happier than knowing a graduate thinks fondly back on their days at Winslow.”

Tickets are $25 for 200 level seats and $40 and for 100 level seats, and there will be bus transportation to and from Winslow Township High School for $5 per person. To purchase tickets, visit www.groupmatics.events/WinslowHS or contact Bobo at [email protected] or (856) 767–1850.
