South Jersey Veterans honored at Zallie’s Supermarkets Inc. Sixth Annual Memorial Day Luncheon

Eight veterans from Sicklerville will be honored

On Saturday, May 20 from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., the eight South Jersey ShopRite supermarkets owned and operated by Zallie Supermarkets Inc., will roll out the red carpet to welcome almost fifty local veterans and their families during the 6th Annual Memorial Day Luncheon To Honor Veterans.

“The Zallie Family and our 2,000 associates are extremely proud to host this event every May,” storeowners Bruce and George Zallie say. “It can never truly repay the sacrifices made, but it’s our way of coming together to express our sincerest gratitude for all those who have served our country.”

In addition to the catered luncheon, several departments in each store prepare generous gifts for the veterans to take home from this event, which is exclusive to Zallie Supermarkets.

Stores in Camden and Gloucester Counties owned and operated by Zallie Supermarkets Inc. will each host six veterans, along with four family members. Veterans are preselected with the help of local VFW chapters and represent each branch of the military. Celebrations commence with a moment of silence to honor all those who serve and those who have fallen, followed by the Pledge of Allegiance led by local scout troops.

Luncheons take place in each stores’ Café resembling celebratory catering venues, complete with patriotic themed décor. Guests are served a delicious full course buffet including salad, meat entrees, pasta, potatoes and vegetables made with fresh, hand selected ingredients using signature Zallie recipes crafted in each stores’ kitchen. The final course is a full size professionally baked and decorated patriotic themed sheet cake created in each stores’ bakery department.

Since all eight events run simultaneously, individual store directors introduce and recognize the veterans in attendance. There are seven vetrans from Sicklerville being honored this weekend. The event at the ShopRite of Sicklerville will honor Michael R. Allen, US Air Force, Staff Sergeant; Charles E. Payne Sr., United States Army, Airborne Ranger E9; Mario Marcucci, US Navy; Russell Nichols, US Navy and Rick A. Sambenedetto, US Coast Guard.

The ShopRite of Williamstown will honor Chandeloris D. Morine, United States Navy and Frederick L. Slickmeyer, United States Army.

The ShopRite of Chews Landing in Laurel Springs will honor Bruce Hayes, US Marines.

Typically, the veterans reflect on their time in the service while sharing heartfelt memories. Each veteran is then presented with gifts including a $200 bank gift card, a custom patriotic floral arrangement created by the floral department, a fresh fruit and gourmet cheese basket prepared by the produce department, a keepsake Swarovski ornament and a certificate of appreciation.
