The state recently granted “initial approval” for medical marijuana dispensary’s in South Jersey to Vineland and Atlantic City
Gloucester Township residents will no longer have to think of medical marijuana coming to the township.
The New Jersey Department of Health in recent weeks had been deliberating over where to grant “initial approval” for the six open licenses for alternative treatment centers with medical marijuana. The licenses were to be split evenly between northern, central and southern New Jersey.
The two South Jersey locations were recently determined by the New Jersey Department of Health to be in Atlantic City and Vineland.
According to the DOH website, “an approved application does not comprise a license, permit or other approval to open and operate an alternative treatment center. Permission to operate is granted to successful applicants only after DOH completes a series of reviews and inspections of their facilities, procedures and products.”
The two chosen applicants in South Jersey must now pass background checks, provide evidence of municipal approval and more.
After learning that Gloucester Township would not be in the running for one of the licenses, Gloucester Township Council approved a resolution to refund the five $50,000 deposits that we’re put down from applicants hoping to build a dispensary in the township.
The refunds were authorized to:
- Modern Remedies, LLC, from Bridgeton, NJ: $50,000;
- Harvest Mass Holding, LLC, from Scotsdale, Arizona: $50,000;
- Midwest Development Project, LLC, from Hudson, Ohio: $50,000
- Care Pharma Group, LLC, from Fort Lee: $50,000; and
- Liberty Plant Sciences, from Henderson, Colorado: $50,000.
