Charity jar stolen from Harrison House Diner

Police said two males have been summoned after identities confirmed through surveillance footage

On Tuesday, Aug. 8, the Harrison Township Police Department was dispatched to the Harrison House Diner, 98 N. Main St., for a theft report.

The owner of the business Constantine Benas advised a white male had entered the restaurant through the rear of the kitchen and walked through the business to the front register. Once there, the male removed a white charity bucket from the counter and walked out of the business to a blue Volvo that was waiting outside. The vehicle fled southbound on N. Main St.

Through video surveillance footage recovered from the business, both males were identified. The driver of the vehicle was identified as a Wall resident, while further investigation revealed the subject who took the bucket to be a 27-year-old male from Long Branch. Criminal summonses are pending against both subjects. Ptl. McLaughlin was assisted by Sgt. Andrew Thomas, Det. Adam McEvoy and Wall Township Police Department during the investigation.
