Flash Flood Watch issued for Mullica Hill

Areas could see rainfall rates greater than two inches per hour

A Flash Flood Watch has been issued for Mullica Hill and much of the surrounding region as residents brace for heavy rain throughout the day on Friday.

The Flash Flood Watch will be in effect from 2 p.m. on Friday through midnight on Saturday. The National Weather Service issued the watch with multiple rounds of showers and thunderstorms expected through tonight.

Torrential downpours could take place this afternoon and evening as storms develop. Some areas could see rainfall rates greater than two inches per hour. While the entire area will not receive heavy rain, isolated rainfall totals of three to six inches are possible if storms track over the same locations.

Torrential rain falling in a short period of time will result in rapidly rising water levels along streams and creeks and in areas of poor drainage. Significant roadway flooding is possible in isolated areas.

In areas where the soil is already saturated from previous storms, basement flooding is also possible. Residents with a history of basement flooding should monitor sump pumps for proper operation and direct outside water flow away from homes if possible.
