Inspira Health Network named 2017 Most Wired

Technology enhances patient safety, clinical excellence and the patient experience at Inspira

Inspira Health Network has once again been named Most Wired as measured by the American Hospital Association’s Annual Health Care’s Most Wired survey.

The survey highlights hospitals that integrate new technology that benefits their patients. This marks the third time Inspira has been named Most Wired since 2014.

“Our trustees and leadership team support the purchase of new technology when they are confident it will enhance patient safety, support clinical excellence or lead to a better patient experience,” said John DiAngelo, president and CEO of Inspira Health Network. “Often times, new technology can have a positive impact in all three of these key areas.”

Inspira also adopts technologies that help keep patients’ protected health information secure. As recent news reports have highlighted, preventing cyberattacks has become a top priority for health care providers. Inspira also regularly updates employees with information about best practices for keeping the organization’s computer network safe and secure.

“We constantly explore new technologies that have potential to allow us to provide care in the safest, most effective and efficient manner,” said Tom Pacek, chief information officer for Inspira Health Network. “We also want to make the health care experience, from initial contact to follow up care, as easy and seamless as possible.”

By introducing smartphone apps, Inspira has made it easier for patients to locate the nearest Urgent Care or ER location, complete with expected wait times and directions. Secure messaging between physicians and staff has led to more timely communications and much quieter hospitals. Across its network, Inspira is implementing a new health care information system that will create a single medical record for each patient, allowing physicians and clinical staff at all of the network’s 125-plus service locations to instantly access the most up-to-date and complete information about their patients.

“The Most Wired hospitals are using every available technology option to create more ways to reach their patients in order to provide access to care,” AHA President and CEO Rick Pollack said. “They are transforming care delivery, investing in new delivery models to improve quality, provide access and control costs.”

The 2017 Most Wired survey and benchmarking study is a leading industry barometer, measuring information technology use and adoption among hospitals nationwide. Nearly 40 percent of U.S. hospitals take part in the survey.

Detailed results of the survey and study can be found in the July issue of “H&HN.” For a full list of winners, visit www.hhnmag.com.
