Mayor’s Message — Shop local in Harrison Township

Mayor Louis Manzo recognizes the local businesses that invest “time and money” to Mullica Hill’s downtown Historic District

By Louis Manzo
Mayor of Harrison Township

The holiday season is upon us and our Main Street looks like a postcard for it. From the incredible tree as our centerpiece to all the shops and residences draped in lights, the village of Mullica Hill just makes you feel good, doesn’t it? Thank you to all the property owners in the historic corridor who have invested their time and money in making our downtown look so wonderful during this festive time. The lights and decorations are an enhancement, but the real treasures on Main Street are all the shops that live there. When was the last time you took a stroll and took advantage of some of the unique businesses in your own backyard?

The southside cornerstones of the Gathering Room Interiors & Farmhouse Design, the Yellow Garage, Sisters, Mullica Hill Floral, the Langemore Salon, the Sign of St. George, Papernut, the Mullica Hill Art Center and the Old Mill (home of Fit to Dance) still serve as the foundation of our business community on South Main Street. But, there have been some changes and new additions worth noting, such as OKKA Karate, a new location for Amazing Grace Resource Center, Blissful Yoga relocating to the former Front Porch and Canary Row Antiques. How about Mademoiselle Macaroons and Boujie Basement clustered near Blueplate? There’s the Flossy’s location, with Hippie Chick and D-signed For You, as well as the newly renovated Parsonage. Pet grooming options include Royal Pup Cuts and Hollywood Grooming at Mullica Hill. We recently did a ribbon-cutting at Cherry on Top Ice Cream Shoppe, so check that out. Grab a bite while shopping at the newly expanded Blueplate and soon to be renovated Naples, and don’t forget about Chianti down at the Plaza. Though the shops are mainly concentrated on the southside, Deeply Rooted Vintage Home and Holy Tomato Too anchor North Main Street where several professional offices lie.

Clearly, my point is our Main Street is home to some really cool and unique businesses with a wide range of eclectic offerings not found elsewhere. I know that we all would choose to support the businesses in Mullica Hill given the choice, so make it a point to stop in a few places prior to Christmas. I’ll bet you find something you weren’t expecting — that perfect gift for someone in your life who is a difficult gift choice every year. At the same time, you get to share a little of Mullica Hill with them this holiday. What could be better than that?
