Anne Pluta, Rowan University Political Science professor, was the feature speaker
Rowan University sponsored a Presidents’ Day Breakfast at the Friends School Mullica Hill on Feb. 19.
The event was organized by Dr. William Carrigan, Chairman of the Rowan History Department and clerk of the Friends School Mullica Hill Board of Trustees.
“Our annual Presidents’ Day breakfast is part of Rowan’s ongoing efforts to share the expertise of our faculty beyond the campus,” Carrigan said.
Anne Pluta, Rowan University Political Science professor, was the feature speaker. Her talk was one based in human emotion and mentality, titled “Insecure Presidents: The Quest for Legitimacy.” The talk focussed on presidents who won the electoral college but not the popular vote.
“Dr. Pluta’s timely talk on presidential communication was especially relevant in this era of Presidential Twitter accounts,” Carrigan said.
Also speaking were Dr. William Carrigan; Lou Manzo, Harrison Township Mayor; Matthew Bradley, Head of School; Heather Simmons, Gloucester County Freeholder; Dave Tinney of the Boy Scouts; and Nawal Ammar, Dean of the College of Humanities and Social Sciences at Rowan.
During the event the Boy Scouts served breakfast and the led those in attendance in a historical trivia game.
“Friends School Mullica Hill was pleased to host this wonderful event again this year. Our school empowers students to become responsible citizens, and being well informed by experts such as Professor Pluta is critical to anyone’s ability to make a positive change in our world,” Bradley said.
The event was catered by the Harrison House and was part of a larger Rowan University celebration of Presidents’ Day.
