Mental health awareness and suicide prevention spotlighted

“We want our residents that are suffering to know that reaching out for help is a sign of strength, resilience and courage…” Freeholder Director Robert M. Damminger said.

Press release issued by Gloucester County

Gloucester County Freeholders want residents to know that there are resources within the county to help increase mental health awareness and prevent suicide.

The county has a Mental Health Professional Advisory Committee, a Mental Health Board and a Mental Health Administrator to help support agencies and individuals.

Freeholder Director Robert M. Damminger said, “We want our residents that are suffering to know that reaching out for help is a sign of strength, resilience and courage and that there are many helpful and effective options available to them throughout the county. The Gloucester County Professional Advisory Committee and Mental Health Board do a great job working to break down the barriers to reverse the stigma of mental illness.”

Freeholder Jim Jefferson, liaison to the Department of Health and Human Services said, “By encouraging and supporting an open dialogue about mental wellness we spread hope to those suffering that recovery is possible and can be achieved with the proper support system.”

Jefferson said, “Mental health issues are not something that anyone needs to struggle through alone. We continually work to normalize discussions about mental health and support those who are struggling that it is okay to talk about what’s going on.”

To reach the Mental Health Administrator, Becky DiLisciandro, email her at [email protected] call (856)-384–6889.
