Mt. Laurel Township Council passes 2018 municipal budget with no tax increase
Mt. Laurel Township Council approved the 2018 municipal budget at this week’s council meeting, and as was the case when council introduced the budget last month, this year residents will see no increase for their local municipal tax. With the budget totaling $38.6 million, residents’ municipal tax rate will remain unchanged from last year’s rate of 34.7 cents per every $100 of assessed property value.
Mt. Laurel Schools Board of Education adopts tentative budget for 2018–2019 school year
The Mt. Laurel Schools Board of Education has passed its tentative budget for the 2018–2019 school year. Total appropriations in this year’s budget reached $75.8 million, which is an increase from last year’s total of $75.1 million. Based on information presented at this week’s BOE meeting when officials detailed the budget for members of the public, Mt. Laurel homeowners with an average home assessed of $237,600 will see a local K-8 school tax increase of $61.77, or 2.4 percent.
Lenape Regional High School District BOE approves tentative 2018–2019 school year budget
The Lenape Regional High School District Board of Education approved its tentative 2018–2019 school year budget at this week’s BOE meeting. Appropriations for the budget total $162.6 million, which is a 2.19 percent increase from the current year’s budget. According to the district, the budget’s general fund tax levy will increase 2.97 percent to $115,467,007, and the budget’s debt service tax levy will decrease $114,039 to $6,453,913. For Mt. Laurel Township, residents with an average assessed home valued at $237,600 will see a tax levy increase of $82.79.

The Mt. Laurel Township Police Department is seeking any information from the public related to the long-term missing persons case of Charles George Teets. According to police, a neighbor in the Ramblewood Apartment Complex reported Teets missing on March 8, 1987, after not seeing him for several weeks. Police say Teets’ pets were missing from his apartment, but his personal items were still inside. According to police, his vehicle was later located on March 23, 1987, parked in the office complex containing his vehicle’s leasing company in Cherry Hill.

The Friends of the Mt. Laurel Library’s next Bargain Book & Media Sale will take place at the Mt. Laurel Library from Wednesday, April 25, through Saturday, April 28. Members of the Friends are invited to a special preview night on Wednesday evening from 6 to 8:30 p.m. New members are welcome to join then. Burlington County Prosecutor’s Office launches ‘Straight to Treatment’ program
The Evesham Township Police Department will serve as the first location in the Burlington County Prosecutor’s Office’s new Straight to Treatment program, which allows Burlington County residents battling drug addiction to turn in their drugs and seek treatment without the fear of being arrested. The program seeks to connect drug addicts with a drug and alcohol counselor from Oaks Integrated Care of Mt. Holly, which offers treatment for substance abuse and will use its network of organizations to get addiction treatment for those who come forward.
