The National Weather Service has issued a high wind warning today starting at 2 p.m. and then continuing until midnight tonight.
The weather service warned of locally damaging winds out of the west and northwest. The gusts could average between 20 to 30 miles per hour and could possibly hit highs of 60 miles per hour during the day.
A strong cold front moving across the region during the mid to late afternoon hours Friday will result in the strong wind gusts. They are expected to continue into late Friday evening. Look for the winds to drop off quickly after midnight.
The weather advisory warns of widespread power outages. It also warned residents to watch for downed trees and tree limbs, which may damage structures and vehicles. The wind will most likely make driving difficult, according to the advisory, especially on bridges and overpasses.
