This year features many of residents favorite events returning from previous years.
The year 2019 is well underway in Mt. Laurel.
New members of Mt. Laurel Township Council have been seated, a new mayor has been selected, and the township has released its list of events for 2019.
The events allow the township to provide residents with a number of benefits throughout the year, from practical services where residents can shred their confidential documents, to days focused more on fun, such as the township’s annual fall festival.
This year’s events are as follows:
· First up is the township’s free rabies clinic for dogs and cats on Saturday, Feb. 23, from 9 to 11 a.m. at Mt. Laurel Public Works Garage. The event will also provide residents the opportunity to license their pets for the year without having to pay a late fee.
· Next is the annual Taste of Mt. Laurel on Tuesday, April 23, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Harrington Middle School. Through this event, the township allows local restaurants and vendors to provide free samples from their menus for residents to sample at their leisure.
· Following is the township’s annual Clean Up Day / Shred Event on Saturday, April 27, from 9 a.m. to noon. The event follows an environmental theme by allowing residents to cleanup sections of town starting at Laurel Acres Park or dispose of their private documents in a secure, environmentally friendly way at the Mt. Laurel Community Center.
· Heading into May, the township will once again hold its annual Memorial Day Tribute on Thursday, May 30 at 6 p.m. at Laurel Acres Park. All residents are once again invited to this somber event to pay tribute to those who have given their lives in the armed forces in service to their nation.
· Next, the end of June marks the start of this year’s Mt. Laurel Township Summer Camp. Although the exact starting day is dependent on the final calendar for Mt. Laurel Schools, residents can already head to the township’s website for forms to register their children for this year’s camp, which is set to run daily from 8:30 a.m-3:30 p.m. at Springville Elementary School through Aug. 16.
· Following in July is the start of this year’s Summer Concert Series on July 11 at Laurel Acres Park. Additionally, concerts are scheduled for Thursday, July 18 at the Mt. Laurel Community Center, on July 25 at Laurel Acres Park and on Aug. 1 at the Mt. Laurel Community Center. All concerts will begin at 6:30 p.m., with specific performers to be announced as shows draw closer.
· Mt. Laurel Township will also be bringing back its family-friendly Summer Movies series for the second year, with the first movie set for Friday, July 12 at Laurel Acres Park. Additional screenings at Laurel Acres Park are scheduled for Tuesday, July 16, Friday, July 26 and Friday, Aug. 16. All screenings will begin at dusk, with specific films to be announced as dates draw closer.
· Also returning this summer is Mt. Laurel Township’s National Night Out on Tuesday, Aug. 6, at Laurel Acres Park from 5:30 to 8 p.m. This event brings local police, fire, EMS and other first responders together in a fun, carnival-like atmosphere to interact with residents in a relaxed setting. Last year’s event was the first National Night Event held in Mt. Laurel in many years, and officials were so pleased with the event that it’s returning for 2019.
· Next, on Saturday, Sept. 21, is the township’s annual Fall Festival at Laurel Acres Park from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Officials note this is Mt. Laurel’s biggest event of the year, with an average of 20,000 people filling Laurel Acres to enjoy food, games, musical entertainment, performances and sample the wares of various vendors on hand for the event.
· Heading into October, the township will hold its second free shredding event on Saturday, Oct. 5. Similar to the year’s first free shredding event in April, the event will allow residents to dispose of private documents in a secure, environmentally friendly way at the Mt. Laurel Community Center from 9 a.m. to noon.
· Ending the year in December is the township’s annual Santa Comes to Mt Laurel event on Thursday, Dec. 12 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Mt. Laurel Community Center. Kids and families are once again invited to take free photos with Santa and enjoy holiday-themed snacks and crafts in the warmth of the community center.
Township officials also remind residents the township will be holding several council meetings “on the road” again this year.
By holding several meetings at locations other than the municipal building, officials hope to allow residents who live in different sections of town an easier way to attend a council meeting and voice their concerns.
Meetings to be held “on the road” this year include council’s Feb. 11 meeting at Countryside Elementary School, council’s March 11 meeting at Hartford Upper Elementary School and council’s Oct. 21 meeting at the Mt. Laurel EMS Building at 201 Masonville Road.
These meetings will all follow a 7 p.m. start time, similar to council meetings held at the municipal building.
