The last time Morgan McGoey, 16, was involved in the South Jersey Ballet School’s production of “Swan Lake,” she was a mere jester. Now, the Cherokee High School junior is again performing in “Swan Lake,” but not as a jester, but the lead of the production, the Swan Queen.
McGoey and the South Jersey Ballet School will open up the spring production of “Swan Lake,” on May 13, 14, and 15 at the Voorhees Schools Theatre on Holly Oak Drive in Voorhees.
“I’ve been doing productions there since I was 6, I also do ‘The Nutcracker,’ which is their production for the winter. The spring show changes every two years,” McGoey said. “I practice five days a week, all day on Saturday and Sunday as well. It’s going to be a great show.”
The talented dancer has been dancing since she was 3-years-old. McGoey said she began her career at Triplett and then later went to the South Jersey Ballet School. Ballet was her favorite out of tap and jazz, she said, and she started to focus solely on that.
All of the dancers for the production were chosen from an intense auditioning session, McGoey said, so the show will be great.
Opening night for “Swan Lake” will be Friday, May 13, at 7:30 p.m. Two shows will be held on Saturday, May 14, at 2:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. The final show will be held on Sunday, May 15, at 2:30 p.m.
