Recognizing small business, residents and more

Dear Community Friends,

As a small business owner myself, I understand first-hand the need to support and to advocate for hometown businesses which are the backbone of our amazing community.

On Saturday afternoon, Sept. 28, I proudly presented a Township Proclamation at the official grand opening and ribbon cutting ceremony of Fine Finish Design, the newest small business in Mantua.

Fine Finish Design was created to guide customers through the entire home renovation process. The team at Fine Finish Design now assists customers with designing cabinetry and helps them select tile, countertops, flooring and hardware, etc. providing a one-stop shopping experience.

Fine Finish Remodeling is owned by Mantua resident Kevin Witt, a general contractor, master carpenter, and overseer of all Fine Finish Design’s renovation projects. His efforts are supported by his partner, both in business and in life, his wife, Heather McNamara Witt. Heather is a kitchen designer and the owner of Fine Finish Design.

On behalf of the entire Township Committee, I’d like to congratulate Kevin and Heather on the extension of their existing business location at 550 Bridgeton Pike, Suite 13. It was a great ceremony supported by many within the community. Best wishes to you both with your future business endeavors.

On the afternoon of Sept. 28, I also attended the Timbercrest Development’s inaugural barbecue in order to meet with residents and discuss neighborhood issues. I’d like to thank HOA Vice President Karen Neptune for inviting me on behalf of the community. I really enjoyed meeting new friends, listening to concerns and chatting about Mantua and our great community.

On Saturday, Oct. 5 from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. was the kick-off event at Chestnut Branch Park for Paint Mantua and Gloucester County Pink. Long-time resident and good friend, Ashley Levinson who’s a breast cancer survivor has outdone herself with the event and activities that she has planned for the week beginning on Oct. 5. Her efforts are to raise money for Making Strides GPSNJ for breast cancer.

Mantua Township is partnering with the American Red Cross to host another blood drive on Tuesday, Oct. 29. In July we reached 87% of our goal, and this time we’re aiming for 100%. To sign up and to donate, call 1-800-733-2767 or visit www.rcblood.org/donate and use sponsor code “mantuatownship.” Time slots are limited and operate on a first-come, first-served basis.

I previously reported meeting with Jerry McGough and Michael Lloyd from the Total Experience Foundation (TEF). Jerry is one of the founders of the Total Turf Experience (TTE) on Lambs Road in Mantua Township (a first class sports and entertainment facility), and has started the TEF which is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization operating out of the Total Turf Experience facility located at 614 Lambs Road.

Mantua Township is partnering with TEF for this year’s Thanksgiving “Turkey and Trimmings” dinners for those less fortunate on Saturday, Nov. 23. Last year the TEF fed 8,800 people for Thanksgiving and we’re bringing this program to Mantua to help those within our community. This program is free of charge.  We will have a distribution location set-up at the Township Administration Building located at 401 Main St. on Nov. 23 to pick-up the free turkey and trimmings with no questions asked. The only criteria is that you register and qualify in-advance with Deputy Clerk, Pam Levine through the Clerk’s Office at (856) 468-1500 Ex.113.

Happy Rosh Hashanah. We want to extend our heartfelt wishes for a Happy New Year to all our Jewish families of Mantua.

Upcoming Township Meetings and Events:

  • Bulk Pick-Up is the week of Monday Oct. 7 through Friday Oct. 11 during your normal trash day.
  • MTPD Car Seat Safety Technicians will be available at the Sewell Fire House on Saturday, Oct. 12 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
  • Columbus Day is Monday, Oct. 14.  Municipal Offices are Closed.

On behalf of Deputy Mayor Pete Scirrotto, myself and the entire township committee – we look forward to continuing our service with honesty, integrity and trustful leadership.

Respectfully,

Mayor Robert T. Zimmerman, MAS
