New officer joins Harrison ranks

The Harrison Township Police Department added an officer to its ranks on Sept. 3 with the swearing in of Joseph Fiore at a township committee meeting.

Fiore was accompanied to the meeting by fellow officers, his wife and mother. He took the oath from Mayor Louis Manzo.

“As is normally the case when we swear in a new force, we’re always very proud,” said Manzo. “Our command staff goes through an arduous process. What you have to go through to get to the swearing in is quite a thing in Harrison Township.

“We have a pretty high standard.”

Fiore was formerly a member of the Camden County Police Department, where he served for two years, according to Harrison Police Chief Ronald Cundey, and received an award for exemplary service while training at the Camden County Police Academy. Fiore also served 12 years in the New Jersey National Guard as a health-care specialist and combat medic.

“We’re pleased to introduce officer Fiore, a dedicated law-enforcement professional and resident of Mullica Hill, as the newest member of our force,” Cundey noted. “He brings a wealth of experience to our community.

“With his background in community policing, emergency medical care and military service,” the chief added, “officer Fiore embodies the values of dedication, professionalism and community service. His diverse skill set and commitment to public safety make him a valuable addition to our township’s law-enforcement team.”

Manzo also reveal at the meeting that he had married Fiore and his wife Ashley.

“You’re checking a lot of boxes,” Manzo told the new officer. “I’ll add to that, on a personal note, I was reminded, because I tend to forget things now … that I married them a couple of years ago. It’s so funny how things come full circle.

“I appreciate the personal connection and, most importantly, welcome to the force,” the mayor added. “We’re really looking forward to having you out on the street.”

The next committee meeting is scheduled for Monday at 7 p.m.
