Richwood’s peach festival returns next month

Richwood United Methodist Church’s annual peach festival will take place on Saturday, Aug. 10, from 4 to 6:30 p.m.

The festival will be held at the church’s Fellowship Hall, where a dessert buffet will feature peach-based baked goods available with a purchased ticket and desserts to go.

“It’s basically an all-you-can-eat dessert buffet,” said church administrator Mildred Herman. “It includes homemade pies, cakes, cobblers, pastries, ice cream and of course fresh peaches. Last year we made 65 peach crumb pies. Pre-ordering a pie is recommended.”

The peach festival will also feature the sale of hot sandwich platters whose options will include sloppy Joes, pulled pork sandwiches or hot dogs.

“We usually serve around 200 people,” Herman noted. “Some come for dinner and dessert, some just dessert.”

Proceeds from the festival will benefit maintainence of Fellowship Hall. It was the venue’s construction in 2007 that helped spur the church’s idea for a peach festival.

“Our first peach festival was held over 20 years ago,” Herman explained. “It was started to help pay for the Fellowship Hall … which is used by the community as well as the church.”

Harrison Township has advertised the peach festival on its calendar, according to Herman, and residents of neighboring towns such as Mantua have also shared news of the event on Facebook.

“We appreciate the support of the church and the community in making this fundraiser a success,” noted Herman, who added that contributons also come from local merchants and farmers.

Festival tickets can be purchased at the church itself, by reservation, or by calling (856) 589-0874. They are also available at the Candy Box in Pitman and the day of the event.
