Haddonfield Memorial High School junior Ella O’Neil has won third prize in the Harmonium Choral Society’s 27th annual high-school composition contest.
Her composition, “Invictus,” will be performed during two Be Brave concerts at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, June 1, and 3 p.m. the following day at Morristown United Methodist Church.
O’Neil has played piano for 12 years, has been a singer for four and also practices songwriting, guitar and composing. She is also involved in her school’s student-led a cappella group, CoEd Acapella, and the Madrigals. She also participates in musical theatre both in and out of school.
“I am in awe of the talent of our student composers and thrilled to be supporting them for 27 years,” said the society’s artistic director, Dr. Anne Matlack. “There were so many excellent submissions, we just had to recognize six students and perform the top two.
“You should come hear these pieces and know that the future of choral music is bright in the hands of these young composers.”
