Burlington County Clerk Joanne Schwartz to perform weddings at Bordentown Pride and Community Day

Schwartz will officiate wedding ceremonies as part of the daylong pride event in support of equality and LGBTQ+ rights

Special to The Sun: Joanne Schwartz will conduct the ceremonies at Bordentown’s Old City Hall, a Greek Revival building that is more than 170 years old.

Burlington County Clerk Joanne Schwartz is inviting couples to marry on Saturday, June 10 in Bordentown as part of the 3rd Annual Bordentown Pride and Community Day.

Schwartz will officiate wedding ceremonies as part of the daylong pride event in support of equality and LGBTQ+ rights. She also plans to participate in the event’s parade.

“Marriage is the embodiment of the love two people feel and their commitment to one another,” said Schwartz. “It doesn’t matter who you are or whom you love. We all deserve the right to marry and be treated equally under the law. I look forward to celebrating this fundamental freedom on June 10 at Bordentown Pride and Community Day.”

Schwartz plans to officiate the weddings that day in Bordentown’s Old City Hall, located at 11 Crosswicks Street. The historic Greek Revival building is more than 170 years-old and served as the city’s municipal complex until 1960.

Couples interested in being wed that day should contact the Burlington County Clerk’s Office at (609) 265-5189 to book a time on June 10. There is no fee for the service, but couples must obtain a marriage license from the municipality where they reside or from Bordentown City if the couple live outside New Jersey.

Schwartz said the day is about celebrating equality and support for LGBTQ+ rights.

“Marriage equality is something we cannot take for granted. It must be defended along with other protections for LGBTQ+ Americans,” Schwartz said. “Events like Bordentown Pride and Community Day send a clear message that Burlington County’s communities stand for equality and that all people deserve to be treated with dignity and respect.”
