The Burlington County Board of Commissioners applauded the selection of Robin A. Walton as the new chair of the Rowan College at Burlington County Board of Trustees, saying the trustees’ choice will usher in a new era of strong leadership at the county college.
Walton was named the Board of Trustees Chair earlier this month and is the first woman to serve in the leadership post.
“March is Women’s History Month and our Board was thrilled to learn that more history was made at our county’s community college,” said Burlington County Commissioner Felicia Hopson, who serves as the Commissioners liaison to the Burlington County Women’s Advisory Council and as a member of the County’s Minority and Equality Rights Task Force. “Ms. Walton has the perfect mix of experience and vision to lead the governance of our county’s college. Her selection adds to the proud tradition of women achievers in our county and will help empower more women and minorities to aspire to become leaders themselves. We look forward to working with her and the other trustees to ensure that RCBC becomes an even greater resource for our county’s students and residents.”
“Our board is incredibly proud of our county’s community college and what it has accomplished over the last five plus decades. RCBC delivers a world-class education that’s also affordable,” added Commissioner Director Dan O’Connell, the Commissioners’ liaison to the college. “We are confident RCBC’s record of excellence will continue under Ms. Walton’s leadership and that she will help the college grow and become even more accessible for all students.”
Senator Troy Singleton also praised Walton’s selection.
“To say that I am incredibly proud of Robin’s appointment as the first woman to lead the RCBC Board of Trustees is an understatement,” said Senator Singleton. “For nearly a decade, I have worked closely with Robin in my capacity as a legislator and have witnessed firsthand her leadership qualities, exceptional talent, and command of complicated policy issues. She embodies excellence and there is no doubt that she will make significant contributions to the RCBC community.”
Walton stated that she felt “honored to have a vote of confidence of her fellow board members and the support of Senator Singleton and the County Commissioners, as they look to support RCBC’s leadership team in providing greater access, quality and support to ensure our students’ success.”
Walton was originally appointed by the commissioners to the Board of Trustees last February and has a wealth of experience in government and community relations. She currently serves as senior vice president of Government and External Affairs at Inspira Health, where she manages Inspira’s relationships with federal, state and local governments, regulatory agencies, policymakers and community stakeholders.
The Burlington Township resident has also worked as VP of Government and Community Affairs for Thomas Edison State University in Trenton and as Community Relations Coordinator for Capital Health. She also previously served as a staffer in the New Jersey Department of Health and Senior Services and policy analyst for the National Center for Advocacy and Recovery for Behavioral Health.
Walton received a bachelor’s degree in political science from Rutgers University and her master’s in management, organizational management and leadership from Thomas Edison State University. She is also a graduate of the Harvard Kennedy School executive fellowship program.
She is also active with the Chamber of Commerce of Southern New Jersey, serving on the organization’s executive committee and as its State Affairs Chair and the DEI Advisory Council Co-Chair.
Among her other accolades, Walton received the 2020 Trailblazer Award from the National Association of 100 Black Women of Southern New Jersey, and she has appeared on NJBIZ’s Top 40 Under 40 and Best 50 Women in Business.
