The Lions Club, sponsors of the annual Mayor’s Breakfast for the past 30 years, has rescheduled this year’s event to Saturday, March 19 at the Presbyterian Church’s Fellowship Hall at 9 a.m.
The reason for the postponement (from Saturday Jan. 22) was the Club’s concern for the health of those attending, given the recent dramatic increase in cases of COVID-related illness and hospitalization.
The Lions Club is putting plans in place to ensure that appropriate social distancing will be possible. Masks and proof of vaccination will be required.
Those who attend the breakfast can look forward to some enhanced features related to the Citizen of the Year award.
The first award was presented in 1973 and 2022 marks the 50th anniversary, so the Lions want to honor not only this year’s recipient, but also give special recognition to past recipients who are able to attend.
In addition to the Citizen of the Year award, the Lions will present the William Hansen Youth of the Year award to Maddie Cush, president of the Leo Club at the High School. Tickets for the breakfast are $15 ($10 for those age 12 and under). Exception: There may be no such thing as a free lunch, but former Citizens get to eat breakfast for free.
