Serial “Target” thief captured after foot pursuit

Gloucester Township Police Department will continue their pro-active, plainclothes, and traffic operations near retail establishments with new and innovative police strategies and local partnerships with Retail Loss Prevention to curtail this type of activity.

The following release is according to the Gloucester Township Police Department.
On 6/7/21, at approximately 1:09 p.m., Target Loss Prevention at 487 Berlin Cross Keys Road, Gloucester Township, reported an active shoplifter inside the business. Loss Prevention was able to identify the male, Robert E. Joyner III from Winslow Township, from previous encounters and constant information sharing with the Gloucester Township Police Retail Theft Detectives. Joyner was previously banned from the Gloucester Township Target Store for fifteen (15) shoplifting incidents since December of 2020 with a combined loss in merchandise in excess of $22,600.00.
Loss Prevention reported Joyner was walking on foot towards Lowe’s Home Improvement Store. Arriving patrol units located Joyner on foot carrying a black backpack. Ptl. Bonelli #281 made contact with Joyner and he immediately fled on foot. Ptl. Bonelli was able to grab the backpack Joyner was wearing, containing several stolen electronic items (over $500.00), causing the officer to fall the ground.
Ptl. Bonelli continued to give chase as Joyner refused to comply while ignoring continual requests to stop. Det. DiCamillo #216, a Gloucester Township Retail Theft Detective, working an off duty employment assignment in the immediate area, observed Joyner running from police. Det. DiCamillo was able to identify Joyner from previous encounters and information obtained from his unit.
Joyner entered the roadway of Berlin Cross Keys causing a safety hazard to officers and traveling motorists. Det. DiCamillo assisted Ptl. Bonelli by tackling Joyner as he attempted to cross Berlin Keys Rd. on foot. Joyner was also in possession of twelve (12) bags of heroin. Minor injuries were sustained by officers attempting to catch Joyner.
This serves as another example of how the Gloucester Township Police Department is actively reducing overall crime by 12.26% and violent crime by 15.63% in 2020. The Gloucester Township Police Department will continue their pro-active, plainclothes, and traffic operations near our retail establishments with new and innovative police strategies and local partnerships with Retail Loss Prevention to curtail this type of activity.
Arrest: Robert E. Joyner III Unit block of Rosalind Circle Winslow Township NJ 08081. Joyner was charged with Resisting by Flight (4th Degree), Possession of CDS (3rd Degree), and Criminal Trespass (DP). He was medically clear for incarceration and remanded to Camden County Correctional Facility in accordance with New Jersey Bail Reform.
