National Weather Service issues pair of advisories as winter’s chilly grip arrives

Wind and wind-chill advisories for the entire region on through Thursday morning

The National Weather Service has issued a pair of advisories as cold and windy weather approaches the region on Wednesday.

A Wind Advisory is in effect for the entire region until 10 p.m. on Wednesday night. Wind guests of 40 to 50 miles per hour are expected this afternoon as a cold front passes through the area. The cold front may also bring brief, heavy snow squalls with wind gusts as high as 50 to 60 miles per hour along with reduced visibility. The strong winds could also blow down limbs, trees and power lines.

The National Weather Service has also issued a Wind Chill Advisory to be in effect from 7 p.m. Wednesday evening until 10 a.m. Thursday morning. Wind chills can fall as low as 15 to 20 degrees below zero during the overnight hours, possibly cause frostbite on exposed skin in as little as 30 minutes. Residents are advised to take precautions and wear a coat, hat and gloves.
