The Partnership for Haddonfield is hosting its second annual Service Appreciation Day on Saturday, June 4 from noon to 4 p.m. in Downtown Haddonfield. The rain date is set for Sunday, June 5 from noon to 4 p.m.
Many Downtown Haddonfield retailers will be donating monetary donations to Liberty USO as well as offering special in-store promotions during th event.
Service Appreciation Day is an afternoon of entertainment and fun that pays tribute to active and veteran military personnel, the Haddonfield Police Department, Haddonfield Auxiliary Police, the Haddon Fire Company №1 and American Legion Post #38. The Liberty United Service Organization (USO) will be on hand to join the celebration, and donations made/collected during this free event will be donated to Liberty USO and to military families in need.
“This event is Haddonfield’s way of showing our appreciation to the men and women who serve us,” said Remi Fortunato, The Partnership for Haddonfield Retail Recruiter. “This is an opportunity to give back to those who put their lives on the line every day to protect us and our freedom.”
Entertainment for the day includes live music by Quartet 33 on Haddy Lane and Corner Pocket, located in the Gazebo in Kings Court.
A special event — a Revolutionary War Skirmish on the Highway — will take place, presented by the Indian King Tavern Museum, rain or shine. The Skirmish was created four years ago to give local history fans in better understanding of the role that the area played during the Revolutionary War. The event will take place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Members of the 2nd PA/43rd A Foot, the Continentals, will arrive at the Tavern at 10 a.m., while members of the 1 New Jersey Volunteers, the opposition, are scheduled to arrive in Haddonfield around 11 a.m. and park at the Presbyterian Church. Both units will work their way through the downtown until approximately 1 p.m., when the drums will sound and the Skirmish will commence.
Everyone is invited to add his or her photo to the Service Appreciation Day “Honor & Remembrance” website gallery. The online gallery gives people a chance to share photos of friends and family who currently are or who have served in the military in an online gallery. The gallery can be viewed at www.downtownhaddonfield.com/honor-remembrance-photo-gallery/; and your photo can be uploaded to the gallery at www.downtownhaddonfield.com/service-appreciation-photo-submission-form/.
